Shyu said that if the new proposals were taken into account by the ministry, it would be a noted improvement in the human-rights situation in the country.
Meanwhile, the Pearl S. Buck Foundation, an NGO that aids cross-cultural marriages and children of foreign spouses, announced yesterday a multicultural education plan.
The plan aims to teach the children of foreign spouses and all students at schools how to respect and appreciate different cultures, said Kathy Ke (柯宇玲), the executive director of the foundation.
"We hope to remove the biases that people have towards the children of foreign spouses and hope that they can be treated equally," Ke said.
