Iran seizes three UK naval vessels, says Iranian news report

Iran has seized three British naval vessels and detained eight crew, an Iranian military source said yesterday.
The British Ministry of Defense said it was checking the report. Iran's state-run Al-Alam news channel said the confrontation took place in the Shatt-al-Arab stretch of water between Iraq and Iran.
A British Defense Ministry spokesman: "We are checking this out. We cannot confirm or deny anything at the moment."
He said there were small naval ships in the area for training Iraqi police, but it was "rubbish" that the vessels seized were warships.
