Former Taiwan Pineapple Group (
The bizarre press conference came a day after former Tuntex Group chairman Chen Yu-hao (
Last Thursday, Huang -- who was convicted of breach of trust in January -- accused Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairman Lien Chan (連戰) of owing him NT$10.91 million.
Yesterday, he said Soong had accepted a political donation of NT$3 million in 1994 but that Soong would not explain or confirm the donation.
"I gave him NT$3 million in 1994 while he was running in the Taiwan provincial governor's election. Everything is written down in black and white and you reporters are more than welcome to ask Soong to explain," Huang said, clutching a copy of the receipt of the donation.
At the press conference, Huang was asked why he was holding the press conference, since political donations are legal and his "accusation" seemed to be harmless to the Lien-Soong camp.
Huang did not explain and kept saying, "Go ask Soong."
The press conference lasted for just 15 minutes and ended with a tirade from controversial dog activist Ko Szu-hai (
As soon as Huang stopped talking, Ko approached him, began to yell and curse and complained that Huang was wasting everybody's time by organizing a useless press conference without sufficient evidence to support his accusation.
Ko has become infamous for his publicity stunts, including appearing behind interviewees on TV news stations, taking stray dogs with him to protest at government offices and bombarding the phone lines of businesses with computerized phone calls.
After Ko's interruption, Huang stood up and left without any further comment.
According to the document presented by Huang at the press conference, in addition to Soong, Huang also identified KMT policy convener Tseng Yung-chuan (曾永權), KMT Pingtung County Councilor Cheng Pao-chuan (鄭寶川), KMT legislators Ho Chih-hui (何智輝) and Wu Don-yih (吳敦義), and PFP legislators Diane Lee (李慶安), Chou Hsi-wei (周錫瑋) and Lin Yu-fang (林郁芳).
Huang said that these KMT and PFP politicians all accepted political donations from him, but he could not remember how much.
Apart from the NT$3 million given to Soong, Huang provided no receipts of donations to the other politicians.
In response to Huang's statement, Lee said that she was quite sure that she had not accepted any donations from Huang during the 2001 legislative election campaign. However, she could not be sure whether she had accepted any donations from him before that.
Chou also denied claims of wrongdoing. He said that he would take it for granted that Huang was making false accusations for political reasons.
"He said that I visited him and took his money. However, I do not even know him in person," Chou said. "He had better make public more evidence or I will definitely sue him."
