In the draft speech Lien accused Chen of driving a wedge between Taipei City and Taipei County as well as Taichung City and Taichung County. Lien and Soong then took part in the launch of the alliance's campaign office in Tainan yesterday afternoon before returning to Kaohsiung City in the evening for a campaign rally.

Only 29.6 percent said they believed the referendum was a result of Chen's determination to protect Taiwan's sovereignty.
