The CDC urged citizens to take precautions against the disease.

"People who have a fever should refrain from going to work or school and stay at home for three days," said Shih Wen-yi (施文儀), the center's deputy director-general.

Taipei City Bureau of Health Director Chang Heng (張珩) said that there was no need to panic and no need to resume taking temperatures at public places.

"When a fever comes up, go to a fever station at a big hospital instead of going to small clinics. The public can also call 119 to have the police take them to a hospital should they have a fever," Chang said.
