High-speed rail safety in question

QUALITY CONTROL A KMT lawmaker said that the use of inferior materials has led to defects in pillars supporting the track and demanded a new inspection committee

In the C295 section linking Tainan and Kaohsiung, two pillars and one bridge span were also demolished because of flawed construction, the statement reported.

The railway's contractors are responsible for the design and construction of their sections. All of the contractors have their own quality assurance plan, said the statement.

THSRC's responsibility is to inspect whether the contractors have carried out their QA plan, the statement said.

"Moreover, THSRC has also hired independent site engineers to inspect the railway's construction. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications will conduct an inspection on the railway before it is opened," the statement said.
