Liu Tai-ying free but not cleared

MONEY MAN The former financial supremo to the KMT was freed from detention by a judge yesterday but a formidable array of charges may still be filed against him

By Jimmy Chuang  /  STAFF REPORTER

Lin filed an application to detain Liu at 2:40am yesterday but his request was declined by Taipei Judge Liang Yao-bin (梁耀鑌) at noon.

After being released, Liu did not make any public comment.

Lawson Corp (正暐) president Lee Ming-che (李明哲) who, according to Su, was a close friend of Liu, and the former Taiwan Fertilizer Corp chairman Hsieh Sheng-fu (謝生富) have been detained by prosecutors on suspicion of corruption and breach of trust since Oct. 17. Neither of them have been charged.

Su alleges that Lee shared the NT$1.06 billion kickback with Liu and that Hsieh purchased Zanadau stock with Taiwan Fertilizer Corp's money and Lee's assistance and then accepted kickbacks from Su via Lee.
