World-renowned American magician David Copperfield will be stopping over in Taiwan today to drum up publicity for his upcoming performance here next month.
Copperfield will be stopping over on his way to China, where he is scheduled to perform tomorrow. He is known for his dramatic performances, like making the Statue of Liberty "vanish" and "walking through" the Great Wall of China.
While in Taiwan, he will sign an autograph for a Taiwanese girl whom he reportedly promised to do so during a performance in Taiwan about 15 years ago, according to the local Chinese-language media. She was unable to get his autograph after the performance at the time, but Copperfield reportedly remembered his promise and asked the organizers of his Taiwan event to search for the girl over the Internet in April. His organizers claim that they have now found her, according to the media reports.
The girl, identified only by her nickname, Hsiang Hsiang (香香), is now 30 and married, but she reportedly still remembers Copperfield's performance and has kept her ticket to the show as a memento, the Chinese-language media said.
Also, a professor who migrated to Taiwan along with the KMT army at the end of the Chinese civil war will be among those waiting for Copperfield at his brief appearance -- to thank the performer for helping him find his mother in China. Copperfield reportedly picked his mother to come up to the stage during his "walk through the Great Wall" performance in China in 1986.
