Taiwan's music industry mourns lost profits

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY The nation's music industry could die off within five years if steps aren't taken to combat piracy, recording executives have warned

The movie industry is in even worse shape. According to Yang I-ping (楊翌平), president of the Motion Picture Association of Taipei, box office ticket sales have dropped from roughly NT$2.8 billion annually to an estimated NT$1.5 billion last year -- a drop in part the result of piracy.
