Presidential Office approves resignation of former NSB heads

In the wake of Control Yuan's impeachment of two former heads of the National Security Bureau (NSB), Yin Tsung-wen (殷宗文) and Ting Yu-chou (丁渝洲), the Presidential Office yesterday issued a press release saying the president had approved the pair's resignations.

Minister Without Portfolio Chiou I-jen (邱義仁) is to take over Ting's position as the secretary-general of the National Security Council, according to a Taipei Times source.

Yin, now a senior advisor to the president, was impeached on Tuesday along with Ting for not preventing the embezzlement by former NSB chief cashier Colonel Liu Kuan-chun (劉冠軍) of over NT$192 million.

Yin was director-general of the bureau from 1993 to 1999. Ting held the post from 1999 to 2000.

In response to the Control Yuan's impeachment, Ting said Tuesday that he would take full responsibility, while Yin issued a statement saying that the bureau's "serious mistake" took place after he left office.
