Chen-Lee alliance steals the limelight

COOPERATION In a crucial step forward for the ruling party, the former president publicly threw his support behind Chen's administration at the inauguration of the Northern Taiwan alliance

Sharing much of the DPP's ideology, the Northern Taiwan Society, along with the Southern Taiwan Society (台灣南社) and the Central Taiwan Society (台灣中社) formed last year, and the Eastern Taiwan Society (台灣東社) -- to be established in October -- will form a nationwide network to assist the DPP administration by providing advice and criticism.
