Bank of Taiwan head questioned in corruption probe

STAFF WRITER

The Taipei District Prosecutors' Office yesterday summoned Bank of Taiwan president Ho Kuo-hua (何國華) for questioning on suspicion of corruption.

The questioning raised eyebrows across Taiwan's financial circles because the Bank of Taiwan is a leading player in the country's financial business.

The banking sector is already in hot water for a high non-performing loan ratio of 8.39 percent.

Prosecutor Liu Cheng-wu (劉承武) said Ho was being questioned for personal loan defaults that he said may be related to corruption but he did not elaborate.

The questioning of Ho was continuing at press time.
