Conspicuous by their absence were displays of military weaponry or placards bearing images of past KMT leaders such as Sun Wen (孫文), former presidents Chiang Kai-shek (蔣介石), his son Chiang Ching-kuo (蔣經國) or even Taiwan's first native born president, Lee Teng-hui (李登輝).
The only military presence was that of a military police motorcycle detachment and the armed services band.
