Three men, including a cousin of Taichung City Mayor Chang Wen-yin's (張溫鷹) husband, were killed in a brawl early yesterday at a KTV discotheque called "Ruby" (紅寶石) in Taichung City.
At around 2am, a fight broke out between more than 20 people at the KTV on Chung Teh 2nd Road (崇德二路) in Taichung. The fighting occurred between employees and former employees that supported one of two shareholders of the KTV engaged in a serious conflict over management rights.
The two shareholders of the KTV that opened in February, named Su (蘇) and Hou (侯), were supported by different groups of staff. Further details regarding the disagreement or the exact motives of the employees was unknown as of press time.
Su and those employees who backed him resigned in early August, but the antagonism between the two groups remained.
The fatally wounded included Huang Chin-shui (黃金水), aged 30; Huang Chin-lai (黃金來), aged 26; and Chen Wen-chieh (陳文介), aged 42. The first two were attacked with Bowie knives and pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital due to loss of blood. The third Chen was beaten to death with clubs at the scene of the conflict. Chen Wen-chieh is a cousin of Taichung City Mayor Chang Wen-yin's husband, Chen Wen-hsien (陳文憲).
Several former employees, including Huang Chin-shui and Huang Chin-lai, had returned to the discotheque on Aug. 31 by disguising themselves as plumbers, almost sparking a conflict, the police said. Given the earlier confrontation on Aug. 31, the police had already ordered the discotheque to close down. Nevertheless, the Ruby ran its business in secret yesterday, when approximately ten former staff members, pretending to be customers, entered the discotheque.
Chen Kuo-yi (陳國義), one of the policemen in charge of the case, claimed that his police unit had checked the discotheque at 1:20am yesterday to make sure it had closed. Unfortunately, the brawl took place after the policemen's departure, Chen said.
The police identified the alleged instigators of the brawl as Chang Ji-lung (張子龍), Ching Yu-chung (金豫忠), and Lin Ming-shan (林明山), the only one of the three apprehended. As Lin was still under the influence of alcohol when caught, the police could not determine the details of the brawl until he was sober. The police are now on the lookout for the other two fugitives.
