The Thais surrounding the hospital agreed to send in the extra doctors, but actually sent in several security forces members disguised as doctors.
Discovering a kitchen window that the rebels had left unguarded, the security forces outside smuggled weapons into the hospital so that the fake doctors and other commandos who had slipped into the hospital would be armed and in position when the raid began, enabling them to immediately open fire on the rebels.
The prime minister's national security advisor, Prasong Soonsiri, told reporters after the ordeal ended on Tuesday: "This is a statement from Thailand that you can no longer do this kind of thing to us."
