Soong plays the `peacemaker'

Lien has vowed to place billions of KMT assets into trust, saying that "party politics and business do not mix."

But Chen dismissed the proposal as just another move to deflect attention from the party's enormous assets and proposed instead to set up an independent investigation commission.

Soong is scheduled to open his campaign headquarters in Taipei on Jan. 22 and another large rally is set to be held in Kaoshiung the following day.
