It was only in recent weeks that the Morgan Stanley Capital Index announced it would be doubling its Taiwan weighting, on the grounds that Taiwan had shown itself firmly committed to continued opening and further reform, and because of the raising of the limit on foreign ownership of local firms in particular. Analysts have speculated that MSCI's move could lead to additional inflows of some US$15 billion into the Taiwan stock market.
