Contemporary

Legacy Taipei, located in a former warehouse at Huashan 1914 Creative Park (華山1914), hosts top Taiwanese pop performers and international acts. It is a night of rock and reggae tomorrow featuring O-Brothaz, Hang in the Air (盪在空中), Skaraoke and Dread Rider. Chinese rockers Second Hand Rose (二手玫瑰) hit the stage on Sunday.

Following their successful performance at Formoz in August, The Big Pink returns to Taiwan for a one-off concert at the The Park (公園展演空間) on Oct. 19. The English electro-rock duo will be supported by dance rock group favorites P!SCO.

Rap artist MC Xiao (小人) appears tonight at The Wall (這牆), Taipei’s most prominent venue for indie rock artists. On Sunday, electronic experimental sound maker Lin Yu-de (林育德) plays with garage/punk rockers The White Eyes (白目) and electronic artist Black Wolf Nakasi (黑狼那卡西). Shoegaze band TuT, grunge rockers Slack Tide and MAD from ambient/chill-out outfit 90Hz gather together on Wednesday.

Tonight at indie rock club Revolver, Japan’s pop punk group Pelotan, The End of the Suns and The Hokey Pokeys and Makiko Higuchi join forces with Taiwanese indie rockers B.B.Bomb (BB彈) and Midnight Ping Pong (午夜乒乓). Tomorrow’s lineup is formed by post-rock/electric act Love Sex Delicious, emo-rock/post-hardcore outfit The Girl’s Mood (少女情懷) and pop/emo band Gray Spiral (灰色螺旋). Garage rock band Eyeball Killer (眼球殺手), psychedelic heavy rockers Sleaze (湯湯水水) and instrumental rock band BHD are among the performers on Sunday. It is pop rock/emo act Carbs Band (碳水化合物樂團), After Quiet and Fear Drive on Wednesday, followed by indie rockers How to Program C++, pop/funk group MosquiCyanide (蚊子氰化物) and pop/punk rock band Use the Force, Luke on Thursday.

Tonight’s show at Roxy Rocker, a basement hangout for indie rockers and fans in Taipei, features dance rock group P!SCO, pop punk and modern rock outfit Go Go Rise (美好前程) and punk group Destroyers (擊沈女孩). Slack Tide and indie rockers Donkey’s Ears (驢子耳朵) are scheduled tomorrow.

Tonight’s roster at Pipe Live Music, a main venue for indie music and parties, includes Brit-rock/pop band Rockson (拉克森樂團) and Lost and Found (失物招領). The venue hosts an electronic party tomorrow featuring DJ Zan, Salamander and Radge Attack.

OTA!! Soul and female singer Chen Jou-mi (陳柔米) each play a set tonight at Witch House (女巫店), an intimate coffeehouse-style venue in the National Taiwan University area. Tomorrow’s show is by jazz/funk duo Duology, and it is soul/rock singer Early (安里) on Thursday.

Celebrated Mando-pop producer Lee Cheng-fan (李正帆) plays tonight at Riverside Live House (河岸留言西門紅樓展演館), while seasoned songwriter Paul Chiang (江志豐) holds a charity concert tomorrow. Taiwan’s ska group Skaraoke, Aboriginal group The Voice of Life (原味醞釀) and Japan’s Pocopoco Band congregate on Sunday, followed by ambient/electronic dance group Utopia (世外桃源) and Brit pop/grunge group Trash on Wednesday. Thursday’s show features a troop of female crooners including Connie Kang (康禎庭) and Ariel Lin (林慧君) from Malaysia.

Japanese blues guitar player Shun Kikuta teams up with jazz drummer Dafu, also from Japan, tonight at Riverside Cafe (河岸留言). Tomorrow, Chin Sheng (欽聖) and Danielle play jazz, folk and blues music, with We.Man.Love also on the bill. On Sunday, indie/instrumental rock group Shimmer Riot shares the stage with No Party for Cao Dong (草東沒有派對), while it is ambient/chill-out band 90Hz and handsome-pop group Moon Police (月亮警察) on Tuesday. Pop/jazz combo Bitter Sweet is joined by We (我們) on Wednesday, followed by punk rocker ChicKNUP (奇克拿樂團) and emo group Egg Soul (蛋魂) on Thursday.

Led by saxophone player Sam Su (蘇聖育), Sam Su Cool Jazz Quartet performs tonight at Sappho de Base, a late-night lounge bar that hosts mostly jazz shows. Tomorrow’s performer is five-piece Paranoid Machine Guns, and it is chill-out night featuring jazz singer Marico Liu (劉俐) on Wednesday.

Traveling songstress Zoe Chang (張心柔) croons with female musician Katelin tonight at Tiehua Music Village (鐵花村), an arts village composed of a music venue, design and crafts shops and a weekend arts fair in Taitung City. Tomorrow Hakka musician Tommy Yan (顏志文) plays with San Geou Tai Band (山狗大樂團), with WarMer also on the bill. Chinese rockers Second Hand Rose (二手玫瑰) appear on Thursday.
