In just one year, NCIS (德相美式加州壽司) has earned a large and devoted fan base hungry for owner Jo Lu’s (呂宗諺) creative and tasty sushi rolls. Now the restaurant has a new, bigger location in the East District and an updated menu.

NCIS recently moved from its original store in Shida night market to 4, Alley 27, Ln 216, Zhongxiao E Rd Sec 4, Taipei City (台北市忠孝東路四段216巷27弄4號) tel: (02) 2721-6952, near the corner of Zhongxiao East Road and Yanji Road (延吉路). Its expanded selection of sushi includes more vegetarian options, classic items like nigiri and NCIS favorites like the weed roll (romaine lettuce, asparagus, radish, shrimp and avocado topped with miso pesto sauce) and the BMW roll (deep-fried shrimp, imitation crab, avocado and salmon sashimi topped with three “secret” sauces and crunchy flying fish roe). Meat-free dishes include the Steve Jobs roll, which pays homage to Lu’s Californian upbringing and is made from apple, soybeans and avocado topped with slices of seared imitation sashimi. (Most of NCIS’ rolls range from NT$100 to NT$200).

Lu and his staff constantly experiment with new ingredients and different combinations of flavors. The restaurant’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ncisushi) and Web site (www.ncisushi.com) highlight its latest specials. Lu also encourages diners to make special requests if they want anything that is not listed on the menu. The new restaurant has enough space for large parties and a fun, upbeat atmosphere. Customers celebrating their birthdays are encouraged to take a spin on NCIS’ wall-mounted game wheel for prizes ranging from a single avocado to free sushi rolls and cash.
