Indian novelist and essayist Pankaj Mishra will be in Taipei Oct. 13 to give a lecture, The Remaking of Asia: What does the Shift of Power from the West to the East Portend?, as part of the Taipei Salon (台北沙龍), a series of talks hosted by the Lung Yingtai Cultural Foundation (龍應台文化基金會). Mishra will discuss how the beliefs from intellectuals in the East have served as a catalyst for Asia’s rise. Asian countries are not necessarily aspiring to be the “next” US, he will argue, but rather are determined to make their mark in the global arena without succumbing to powerful Western influences. The lecture will be moderated by Yang Jui-sung (楊瑞松), an associate professor in the of Department of History at National Chengchi University.
