Llwyth [Tribe], a production by Sherman Cymru and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru is a gay fantasy on Welsh themes set during a rugby international night in Cardiff. A group of four men are determined to make a night of it, despite the defeat of their team. When a good-looking youth joins their group, tensions rise. There will be a 30 minute pre-show talk in the theater lobby and post-performance discussion with director Arwel Gruffydd and playwright Dafydd James.

Deathtrap (死亡陷阱), the public debut of the award-winning experimental theater production from the recently established group Ya Yu She (鴉語社). The show picked up seven awards at the National Taiwan University of the Arts’ (國立臺灣藝術大學) 39th Experimental Theater Exhibition (39屆實驗劇展).

Where is Mackie? (Mackie 踹共沒？), a modern production of traditional Taiwanese gezai opera by the Yi Shin Taiwanese Opera Troupe (一心戲劇團). This adaptation from Bertolt Brecht’s Threepenny Opera, is directed by Liu Shou-yao (劉守曜). Playwright Liu Chien-kuo (劉建幗) is an acknowledged expert in the difficult art of fusing the traditional and the modern.

Sebastien Szczyrk aka un escargo, a performance that is part of the 2012 Summer Move — Interdisciplinary Spectrum (舞上癮) series being hosted by the Taipei Artists Village (台北國際藝術村). Performed by Sebastien Szczyrk, an artist from France, the production uses “soundscape, field recordings, electronic melodies, digital spray and colorful lines, to invite the viewers to construct their own narrative experience.”

Uzbek-born, Santander Grand Prize-winning classical pianist Eldar Nebolsin performs in Taipei on Sunday. The program includes Bach’s Italian Concertoand Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 4 in E-flat major in the first half, as well as pieces by Rachmaninov and Liszt.

The National Concert Hall’s summer jazz series continues tomorrow with the NTCH Summer Jazz Project, a collaborative show between Taiwanese and American musicians, featuring hard bop drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath and Grammy award-nominated alto saxophonist Antonio Hart. Taiwanese drummer Rich Huang (黃瑞豐) is among the local musicians taking part. On Wednesday, the Mingus Big Band, a New York-based group devoted to performing the music of Charlie Mingus, takes the stage.
