Transjourney — 2012 Future Media Festival (超旅程 — 2012未來媒體藝術節) brings together nearly 50 works of digital art by artists from the US, Italy, Germany, South Korea and Taiwan. The festival includes installations by video art pioneer Nam June Paik, as well as a site-specific, audio-visual performance by Canadian artist Herman Kolgen. Through exhibitions, lectures and forums, the festival seeks to integrate “art, performance, sound, video, gaming, lifestyle and technology, to illustrate the trajectory of future arts,” according to the press release. A symposium on digital art will be held on Sunday beginning at 1pm at the Taipei National University of the Arts’ (國立臺北藝術大學) International Conference Hall (國際會議廳). Re-engrave (深刻) is a solo exhibition by Juang Rung-je (莊榮哲). According to the gallery’s press release, Juang uses “skin and blood” to create paintings that express “our manic lives.” In reality, the paintings are delicate renderings of natural subjects, and are reminiscent of Chinese bird-and-flower paintings. The artist will give a talk on Saturday beginning at 4:30pm.

To Hell With Your Future (去你的未來) is a solo exhibition of video works by Chen Wan-jen (陳萬仁). Chen’s one and two-channel videos depict car accidents in urban environments.

Beyond the Frame (明目補血) is a group exhibit of installation and video art by Chen Shiau-peng (陳曉朋), Niu Chun-chiang (牛俊強) and Yu Cheng-da (余政達) that examines color theory.

Chen Ching-yuan (陳敬元) ponders notions of self-knowledge and the human body in Staggering Matter, a solo exhibit of painting, drawing, video and installation art. According to the press release, Chen’s work attempts to move “the oppressed and restrained body through various forms, personalities and perspectives.”

Essence of Memory (記憶的本質) is a group exhibit of painting by artists from Taiwan, China and the US. It includes portraiture by Chen Ji-lan (陳既瀾) and Tsai Yi-ting (蔡依庭), as well as monotone landscape paintings rendered by Xie Fan (謝帆).
