While Tibetan dancer/choreographer Sang Jijia (桑吉加) is no stranger to Taipei dance lovers, we do not get to see enough of him, considering that he is based in Hong Kong at the City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC, 城市當代舞蹈團), where he has been resident choreographer since 2006.

Sang returns to Taipei this week with his award-winning 2009 production, As If To Nothing (那一年‧ 這一天), which he created to mark the CCDC’s 30th anniversary. The production is part of both Hong Kong Week in Taiwan and START: 2015 Kuandu Arts Festival.

As If To Nothing examines the passage of time as part of our stream of memories, the constant balancing act — or struggle — we go through between remembering and forgetting names, faces, places and stories. How do we determine what is real and what is fake? Sang has described the multi-media piece as technically challenging, but one that travels well and showcases the artistry of the troupe’s dancers.
