Legacy Taipei hosts top Taiwanese pop performers and international acts. Tonight, indie act Chocolate Tiger (猛虎巧克力), pop group Queen Suitcase (皇后皮箱) and indie rockers Bearbabes (熊寶貝) take the stage. Sunday’s spotlight is on Mando-pop act Pets Tseng (曾沛慈). On Thursday, it is the latest installment of The Next Big Thing, featuring taike rockers Sunset Samurai (夕陽武士), chiptune band Physical Chemical Brother (理化兄弟) and post-rock combo 2HRs.

Keelung-based symphonic black metal band Anthelion (幻日) joins forces with death metal/deathcore outfit Flesh Juicer (血肉果汁機) tonight at The Wall (這牆), Taipei’s most prominent venue for indie rock artists. Tomorrow’s spotlight is on J-pop group Kouki X Hikaru. It is the release party of Amis rockers Outlet Drift’s (漂流出口) debut album on Sunday, supported by grunge rocker group Slack Tide and You-S (你們你們). On Wednesday, it’s electronic night with My Skin Against Your Skin (激膚樂團), The Black Map and OVDS, followed by indigenous musicians Yeh Wei-ting (葉瑋庭), Mark Chang (張心傑) and Lai Sheng-en (賴聖恩) on Thursday.

Tonight’s main act is experimental musician Asuna from Japan at indie rock club Revolver, supported by electronic duo Dronetonics, experimental electronica act Shishukong (屍術控) and ATW Girl (逆風少女). Tomorrow, the venue hosts the second edition of Encephalopuncture of Hallucination Festival, featuring Japan’s doom metal act Funeral Moth and black/post-metal outfit Funeral Sutra as well as Taiwan’s Bitch Finder and Armed Judas. The performers on Sunday include punk/grunge group Raven Flats (烏鴉公寓) and Tainan-based hard rock band Long Hair Monster (長毛怪樂隊). Lukas Landa, a musician from Prague in the Czech Republic, travels to Taipei on Wednesday, joined by blues rock outfit Commuters (通勤少年). Electronic duo Orientone (大聲東) mixes Oriental music traditions with electronic sounds on Thursday, with psychedelic group Radio Dead from Sydney, Australia also playing.

In late October of 1873 the government of Japan decided against sending a military expedition to Korea to force that nation to open trade relations. Located down a sideroad in old Wanhua District (萬華區), Waley Art (水谷藝術) has an established reputation for curating some of the more provocative indie art exhibitions in Taipei. A fossil jawbone found by a British girl and her father on a beach in Somerset, England belongs to a gigantic marine reptile dating to 202 million years ago that appears to have been among the largest animals ever on Earth. Researchers said on Wednesday the bone, called a surangular, was from a type of ocean-going reptile called an ichthyosaur.
