When The Loop celebrated its 10th anniversary four years ago with a massive bash, I distinctly recall a saxophone player and a DJ playing together on stage and was amazed at how enthralled the crowd was as well as how good the music sounded.

John Jones was the DJ that day and said he remembers the performance vividly.

“It still stands in my memory as one of my favorite gigs ever. When we finished our set on the main stage ... a group of guys spelled out ‘thank you’ with their glow sticks,” he told the Taipei Times by e-mail.

Jones will be in Taiwan for two gigs this weekend to promote his new music label, Yoversion Records.

“This is kind of a promotional tour for the label as well as an opportunity to visit the beautiful country again and catch up with [a friend],” Jones said. He added that it’s his third time visiting the nation.

“The positive energy that you receive from people changes the way you look at things and I’m a better person for it. Sharing a passion for the music that you play with a crowd in front of you is quite a unique and exhilarating experience. It’s addictive, you feed off the crowd as much as they feed off you, and it creates a really special atmosphere.”

John Jones plays tonight from 9pm to 3:30am at Barcode, 5F, 88 Songren Rd, Taipei City (台北市松仁路88號5樓). Admission is free.

High Society featuring John Jones tomorrow night from 7pm to 5am at Mirage, 12F, 480 Shizheng Rd, Xitun District, Greater Taichung (西屯區市政路480號12F). Admission is NT$800 at the door.
