The Vinyl Word

The legendary Jazzy Jeff brings Christmas cheer tomorrow at Myst.

‘Twas the weekend before Christmas, and all through Taiwan

The nightclubs were buzzing, there was much going on

Though stockings were hung by fake chimneys with care

Nobody could’ve hoped that the world’s best DJ Jazzy Jeff (real name Jeffery Townes) would be there

But the children of Taipei on this Saturday night

Won’t be nestled in bed if they know what is right

At Myst, there’s a combo of funk, hip-hop and soul

And some scantily-clad dancers that twirl around poles

He’s the best Yuletide gift that Taiwan has e’er seen

‘Cos he converts EDM lovers to dancing machines

Instead of the bang-bang-bang music that Myst is known for

He’ll bring something classy right to their dance floor

Many folks do recall when Jeff was with Fresh Prince

And don’t know that he has done many things since

But it’s true Jeff picked up his first Grammy Award

For Best Rap Performance with Will Smith on board

Every time he steps out, old Jeff causes a clatter

Other DJs soul-search and say, “Damn, what’s the matter”

They don’t get that they, too, can play old tunes to the teens

Till they’re all singing along to MJ’s Billie Jean

He speaks not a word when he gets behind decks

And lets wingman, MC Skillz, hype the crowd and catch wreck

From young to the old, it don’t matter who’s in the place,

Jazzy Jeff will make sure they have a smile on their face

At the end of the show, with some sweat on his brow

He’ll come to the stage and take a quick bow

“Happy Christmas to all” is something he might say

And the crowd will think, “God damn, that Jeff just made my day”

Jazzy Jeff with MC Skillz) performs tomorrow from 10pm to 4am at Myst, 9F, 12 Songshou Rd, Taipei (台北市松壽路12號9F). Presale tickets are NT$800 and available only at Myst. Admission at the door is NT$1,000 and all tickets come with two drinks.

Dashing through streets

With five people in a cab

On the way to meet

Friends at a bar that has had

Some bad news as of late

When they turn off all their lights

It’ll be Triangle’s dreary fate

To close for good on Saturday night

Oh, jungle bells, jungle bells

Drum and bass all the way

Oh, Robi Roka plays them tunes

And the masses they will sway-ay

Back and forth, back and forth

Celebrating one last day

The neighbors are lame and they complain

So Triangle is going away

Jungle Bells with Robi Roka, C-Type, Lai, Subtle, DTR and MC Stoppa is tomorrow night at Triangle from 10pm to 4am, 1 Yuman St, Taipei (台北市玉門街1號). Admission is NT$300 and comes with a drink.
