An art event positioning itself as a platform for performances, concerts, exhibitions and other artistic endeavors that strive to break down established boundaries between art forms, On Site (混種現場) is slated to open tomorrow at the Huashan Grand Green (華山大草原), located at the intersection of Linsen North Road and Beiping East Road.

Among the troop of performers invited to join the opening festivities, Taiwan’s multimedia artist and musician Ke Chih-hao (柯智豪) and his Big Band will put forth a cross-over show blending elements from Peking opera, modern theater with filmic images and electronic music. Noted for his pursuit of fusing technology and the human body, American cyborg musician and open-source advocate Onyx Ashanti will introduce local audience to his invention of Beatjazz, a musical system playable with different body parts. Meanwhile, French artist collective Chdh will weave together a performance of sounds and images by using the digital audio-visual instruments they have developed over the years.

During the festival period, sound artists engage in different boundary-breaking experiments at several venues in the Shida and Taida neighborhoods including TheCube (立方計劃空間) gallery, Insomnia Cafe (睡不著咖啡館) and the Joie Eternelle (永樂座) bookstore.

The nine-day event will end on a high note with French group 1024 architecture bringing its signature Boom-box party to Treasure Hill Artist Village (寶藏巖國際藝村) on Oct. 6. For those who grew up in the low-tech era, the luminous DJ stage shaped like an oversized ghetto blaster will surely bring back nostalgia and memories.
