Spring Scream, the music festival to kick off on April 3, is looking to get weirder, if possible. Founder Jimi Moe says he is looking for collaborations, and now is the time to propose them. I realize this will read like a kinky personals add, but he is looking for “a game, a contest, a kabuki slo-mo hour, a hammock and umbrella, a cybersteam bikini, hand woven sunglasses” or something even freakier. This weekend, if you want to a heavy metal wake-up call for 2013, go see Masquerader tomorrow at The Wall. All five members are still in college, but this band is tight! The group was formed in 2008 and 2009 by guitarist Goat Zhan (詹岳霖) and bass player Roger Lee (李冀昕), who were high school classmates.
“First we decided to play old-school thrash metal,” says drummer Ron Lee (李偉豪), citing the influence of Megadeth and Napalm Death. “But now we’re looking to be more avant-garde and add more different elements. We want to be more technological, more futuristic.” They play with two hardcore bands, Sideffect and Human Brutality.
■ Tomorrow at 8pm at The Wall (這牆), B1, 200, Roosevelt Rd Sec 4, Taipei City (台北市羅斯福路四段200號B1). Admission is NT$400.
