Next week the Guling Street Avant-Garde Theatre (牯嶺街小劇場) hosts Bird Song (鳥之頌), an experimental theater work about love, desire and beauty as found within the most intimate moments within the self. Written by Australian expat actor Ren Flannery, the play follows the journeys of two women and a mythological bird in a private bath house. Flannery trained with Japanese butoh masters Yukio Waguri, Katsura Kan and Semimaru, and brings these elements into her work, which is performed by a mostly Taiwanese cast.
