Measure, Measure! (量。度) is an operatic adaptation of Shakespeare’s play Measure for Measure created by the Taiwan Bangzi Opera Company (台灣豫劇團).
The new production follows the group’s The Bond (約/束), an opera adapted from The Merchant of Venice that premiered in 2009, enjoyed international success and was staged at the fourth British Shakespeare Association Conference in the UK.
Measure for Measure, which was adapted by Perng Ching-hsi (彭鏡禧), one of Taiwan’s foremost Shakespeare scholars and former dean of the National Taiwan University’s College of Liberal Arts, has high claims to presenting a penetrating interpretation of Shakespeare’s work, rather than simply dressing up a story appropriated from the Bard.
The production stars Henan opera (豫劇) diva Wang Hai-ling (王海玲).
