Billed as the biggest ever, the 10th annual Taipei International Baking Show opens to the public tomorrow at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall (台北世界貿易中心南港展覽館). The event is the leading professional bakery exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region and last year’s edition drew 110,000 visitors. Professional bakers and other industry members can preview the show today.
This year’s show comprises nearly 1,000 booths. The exhibition’s 11 sections include a bakery hall, an area dedicated to ingredients and another to ready-to-eat breads, pastries, cakes, cookies and chocolates. The event will spotlight baked goods made from locally grown ingredients, including flour ground from wheat and rice.
Event highlights include the 2012 City Bread Championship (城市麵包大賽), which organizers say is the largest competition of its kind in Asia. Bakers from 11 cities in Taiwan will square off against contestants from Japan, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Phillippines and Vietnam. A separate contest will have bakers competing to create the most delectable baked goods using raisins and cheese from California.
