An old stalwart that needs no introduction to Taipei gastronomes and lovers of all types of excellent bread, pastries, pasta dishes, German food and authentic delicacies has opened a new branch.

Wendel’s German Bakery and Bistro, which already boasts a flagship store with beer garden and deli on Taipei’s Zhongshan North Road, and two other branches in the capital, has taken a bold leap to the very heart of Neihu Technology Park.

Situated across the road from a verdant park, the outlet excels in providing a cozy bistro-like atmosphere in a spacious setting filled with natural light. The open kitchen is a real treat — apart from being able to watch the chefs prepare Wendel’s signature dishes, the aromas floating from that area are guaranteed to make the mouth water.

Regular specials, as well as a daily happy hour, have already made the new store a fixture in the district.

The grand opening of Wendel’s Neihu branch was held on Tuesday at 1pm with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

To celebrate, Wendel’s is offering menu specials this week, with several main options — like half a grilled free-range chicken, farmer-style schnitzel and flammkuchen — coming with a pasta on the house. And, of course, no hearty meal would be complete without ending on a sweet note in the form of Wendel’s delectable cakes and pastries.

Address: 11, Alley 22, Ln 513, Ruiguang Rd, Taipei City (台北市瑞光路513巷22弄11號).

Wendel’s is a short walk from Xihu MRT Station (西湖捷運站), Exit 2.

Open Monday through Friday from 1:30pm to 9pm (last orders at 8pm) and Saturday and Sunday from 9am (with breakfast until 1pm) to 9pm.

All major credit cards are accepted.
