Taipei’s Halloween spooktaculars

Halloween may fall on Monday this year, but fun and spooky festivities start this weekend with live music, free food and, of course, big dollar prizes for best costume

Halloween is a great excuse to shake your bones.

On Tap will transform its pub into a spooky house of horrors tomorrow night for Halloween. The Night of Pure Evil includes a cash prize of NT$5,000 for sexiest costume and NT$5,000 for the winner of the Giant Jenga Competition, which starts at 9pm. Witches Brew cocktails are NT$100 per “goblet” and NT$500 gets you unlimited goblets from 8pm to 11pm. Admission is free.

Carnegie’s Halloween bash pulls out all the stops with drink specials and prizes for best costume. Those in costume enter free and have a chance to be crowned king or queen of Halloween and go home with NT$5,000 each. There is also a NT$5,000 prize for best group costume. “Wicked Witch’s cocktails” are free for “ladies in costume” from 9pm to midnight. When the bell strikes midnight, shots of “Jagermonster” will be given out free for an hour. “Dragon’s Blood” and “Jagermonster” shots are NT$100 at other times. Tomorrow from 9pm until very late. The party continues on Sunday from 3pm to 5pm, when Carnegies hosts a kid’s Halloween party that will include face painting, pinata bashing and food. Prizes are on offer for the best costume and every child goes home with a gift bag. NT$450 per child.

Luxy teams up with ICRT for “Grave-ful Dead,” a themed Halloween party that calls on revelers to dress up as rock stars, boy bands or rock legends. Best costume winner takes home NT$10,000. Those in costume who arrive before 11pm get in for free, afterwards admission is NT$500 (includes two drinks). Those not wearing a costume pay NT$800 (includes two drinks) all night. Starts tomorrow at 10pm.

International rock outfit Sound Stream will be on hand to play tunes like Michael Jackson’s Thriller, the Cranberries’ Zombie, Metallica’s Sad But True and Ray Parker, Jr’s Ghostbusters. Guests are encouraged to dress as a devil or an angel and the best costume wins a bottle of Chandon sparkling wine. Tomorrow from 9:30pm to 2am.
