Provided your definition of exotic involves frozen cocktail drinks and a kitschy Hawaiian-esque barroom, Coconut (可可娜) is a tiny slice of tropical paradise situated among the bustling alleys off Zhongxiao East Road Section 4 in Taipei.
The bar changes its cocktail flavors every now and then. Choices on a recent visit included pina colada, margarita, strawberry, tequila sunrise and blue Hawaiian hurricane. The staff mixes the alcoholic drinks according to customers’ preferences.
One of the “coconut girls” — a term for the all-women staff — said that since many shoppers in the neighborhood are not big drinkers, their slush beverages are alcohol-free (NT$50 for one plastic cup). Shots of liquor are added to order. The cocktail slush with a single shot costs NT$90, NT$130 for a double, and NT$40 for each extra shot. That’s good news for clubbers, who can get boozed up here before heading to the nearby Luxy.
Coconut is located in an alleyway with an address that reads 75-6, Ln 187, Dunhua S Rd Sec 1, Taipei City (台北市敦化南路一段187巷75-6號). The establishment is open Monday to Thursday from 3pm to 10pm, Friday from 3pm to 11pm, Saturday from 1pm to 11pm and Sunday from 1pm to 10pm. Tel: (02) 2711-0920.
