Grammy-winning Latin jazz pianist Michel Camilo and his trio kick off the National Concert Hall’s jazz season tomorrow.

The National Concert Hall’s 2011 jazz season begins tomorrow afternoon with a concert by Grammy-winning pianist and composer Michel Camilo and his trio. Camilo, a native of the Dominican Republic, blends Caribbean rhythms and jazz harmonies in his playing and compositions. He will be joined by Michael Bowie on bass and Cliff Almond on drums. This year’s lineup attests to the National Concert Hall series’ reputation as the country’s premier jazz event. Trumpeter Terence Blanchard is scheduled to play on Friday next week, pianist Ramsey Lewis and his quintet perform on Aug. 27, and fusion group Yellowjackets appears on Sept. 9.
