The SMX-C14 has 16 gigabytes of internal memory, and an SD/SDHC memory card slot for expansion. The SMX-C10 is strictly bring-your-own SD memory card. Samsung says you can record more than six hours of video with 16 gigabytes of memory. Both models will be available in July; prices are to be determined.
Both models shoot video at a high-definition resolution of 720 by 480 pixels, and also feature a 10X optical zoom, image stabilization and a swiveling 2.7-inch LCD. They also offer a one-button straight-to-YouTube capability for any budding Internet video moguls.
APPETITE MEETS QUICK REFERENCE
For adventurous cooks, there is no frustration like spotting a tantalizing ingredient at the grocer and having no idea how you might use it — like that softball-size bulb of fennel calling out from the produce section.
If you have an iPhone and the free Epicurious app, you can check with the staff at Bon Appetit, Gourmet and assorted chefs. The app allows you to search 25,000 recipes to find your dish and create a shopping list on the spot.
There are several ways to search, and search terms can be combined, so that the 651 fennel recipes can be narrowed to 45 healthy recipes. Sea bass and spicy tomato over braised fennel, anyone?
There are also categories like I Can Barely Cook, Party Snacks or Dishes Kids Love, so it’s not just for the epicurious, but the epi-inept as well.
The app isn’t as intuitive as it might be. To make an instant shopping list you have to tap an unlabeled plus sign, which then gives you an option menu. And it would be nice if it offered nutritional information for the recipes.
The Epicurious app may not be perfect, but it is pretty well done.
