Who wants some good "craic?" For all you plastic Paddies out there fumbling around for a flimsy excuse to get some this St Patrick's Day, catch yourself on and allow the Vinyl Word to take you to the "top o' the morning."
To make partying easier this year, the powers that be have decreed that as March 17 falls in Holy Week, the first time since 1940, celebrations will be moved forward.
Unfortunately, the Vatican may have put the kibosh on some revelers' fun with the recent introduction of two new sins: excessive wealth and drug abuse.
In the eyes of the big DJ in the sky, more giving and less taking may be called for.
Anyway, since St Patrick never banished snakes from the Emerald Isle - there were none in post-glacial Ireland - and since God is, possibly, nothing more than a long-winded, well-told, and politically motivated story about the sun, we might as well include some more made-up nonsense to celebrate.
First up in Taipei is the White Valentine's Electro Party at 5F tonight. White Valentine's Day is a money-spinning day of love, introduced by the Japanese to get the boys to buy white marshmallows for their belles, after the ladies had previously bought their Prince Charmings chocolates in another well-marketed, loved-up day last month.
Despite the party's frivolous raison d'etre, it has a quality lineup of JoeHo and Victor Cheng. The bill also includes Cookie, who opens for Tiesto on April 3. For singletons looking for love, or just a little lust without the caution, expect fun with chocolate presents and wear white, not green.
Door tax is NT$300, which includes one drink; NT$200 for clubbers wearing white. From 11pm until 5am at 5F, 205, Zhongxiao E Rd Sec 4, Taipei City (台北市忠孝東路四段205號5樓). On the Net: www.5f-taipei.com.
It's been a while, but The United Nations of Funk (UNF) is back with Rewind tomorrow at Plan B. Anyone who remembers the last do will know Rewind bashes return partygoers to the womb with classic house from 1985 to 2000.
The bill includes Jr, one of the original UNF DJs, SL and UNF resident Schism.
Best male and female Irish dancers, judged by Irish angel Elaine Cartoon, win a bottle of whisky each. REWIND, tomorrow from 10pm until 5am at Plan B, 29-1, Anhe Rd Sec 1, Taipei City (台北市安和路一段29號之1). Entrance is NT$400.
Free Your Mind at Bliss tomorrow features self-dubbed "soundscapers" Moshang and Viba crafting their own mash-ups from down tempo to funky house. Tomorrow from 9:15pm until 12:15am at Bliss, 148 Xinyi Rd, Sec 4, Taipei City (台北市信義路4段148號).
Since today is a special day for the Patron Saint of Myths, as well as a celebration of love invented by a confectioner, the Vinyl Word carries the make-believe theme to it's conclusion with a massive conspiracy theory that affects the entire world and which will eventually lead to your slavery and that of your children. Perhaps.
The Zeitgeist party tomorrow at Liquid Lounge in Taichung celebrates one of the most viewed and talked-about Internet videos regarding the Sept. 11 conspiracy theory that the US government blew up the Twin Towers.
It's Zeitgeist day around the world with over 1,000 viewings planned across the globe. After a screening and discussion session, you can party on with music from Chi Funk, Subtle, Edify, Renf and Z, all playing funky house and old skool tunes.
Tomorrow at Liquid Lounge, 98, Chung-ming S Rd, Taichung City (台中市忠明南路98號). Admission is NT$300 with two drinks before 12pm. To view this awesome movie online, visit www.zeitgeistmovie.com
