    POP STOP

    By Ho Yi
    STAFF REPORTER

Women obsessed with high-heels beware, if you feel obliged to wear the torturous footwear on a daily basis and can dance and do splits with those babies on, the odds are you will one day suffer a bad back like Mando-pop queen A-mei (阿妹) does.

Owning a collection of high-heels with spikes ranging from 10cm to 18cm, the shoe fetishist is reported to be suffering from a disjointed spine after favoring body-deforming footwear for the past 10 years. The diva insists on wearing sneakers and slippers high enough so as not to diminish her stature when she's walking in the street.

With an ever roving eye for wealthy, married men, Hong Kong's age-resistant belle, Michelle Reis (李嘉欣), has found her herself a 45-year-old Prince Charming, Julian Hui (許晉亨), whose grandfather was Hong Kong's Theo Tomasis, and was born into a family with assets reportedly worth over NT$80 billion.

A paparazzi magnet, the new couple's 14 month-long affair ended with Hui divorcing his wife of 16 years and the 37-year-old star implying nuptials were in the offing. Rumor published in the Chinese-language press has is that Reis asked Hui's family for a betrothal payment of NT$420 million, which enraged Hui's parents who kicked the star out of the game.

Apparently, though, the son has a mind of his own. No better than Reis when it comes to past flings and liaisons, Hui has been romantically linked with many stars and was once engaged to Carina Lau (劉嘉玲) long before Tony Leung (梁朝偉) and Terry Gou (郭台銘) entered the picture.

Rich man marries beautiful woman with prenuptial agreement and produces heir to the family business: what a great reality show.

Married dame Brigitte Lin (林青霞) could tell Reis about the other side to the saga though, as she is reportedly suffering from "emotional instability" as her marriage to a multi-billionaire crumbles.

Surprisingly, Jay Chou (周杰倫), not an exclusive psychiatrist, put a smile back on Lin's face with his new movie Secret (不能說的秘密). Lin was spotted by Hong Kong paparazzi watching the movie twice in four days. The former diva was moved to tears by the puppy-love story and dragged all her high-society lady friends to see the film with her.

It is true that famous people can do whatever they want to and with style, most of the time. Ella, of the girl outfit S.H.E, recorded a special album in memory of her late puppy and held an album-signing event last weekend. Mourning for her pug, which suffered a rare condition caused by high levels of female hormones [it was a male dog], Ella told local press it seemed fitting that "an hermaphroditic dog should have had an hermaphroditic owner."

It's refreshing to see a teenage idol with such an interesting self-image.

The Million Star Gang's (星光幫) agent, HIM (華研國際), is milking the gang dry at a remarkably speedy rate. Two months after the release of the group's first compilation album, a DVD collection on the first edition of the singing contest that produced the stars is set to hit the record store shelves next month, and the second compilation album is slated for release in October.

Pop Stop's advice to the agent: since everyone expects you to cash in on the Million Star Gang craze, you may as well do it with style.
