And now for something completelydifferent

Two parallel children's festivals in Taipei and Ilan provide a bumper offering of activities for families looking to keep kids entertained over the summer break

Apart from the main performances, this year's event has extended the festivals usual activities with the participation of 25 museums, parks and cultural centers, which will host separate theatrical productions. Workshops led by Cup Theater (杯子劇團), Shoes Children's Theater (鞋子兒童劇團) and Yi-yuan Puppet Theater (一元布偶劇團) at Taipei Cultural Center, Wenshan Branch (社教館文山分館) and Puppetry Art Center of Taipei (台北偶戲館) will nurture young minds with creative theater games using everyday items such as paper and clothes.

A mini film festival offers children and adults a perfect escape from the summer heat with 10 selected movies to be shown at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (台北市立美術館), among other venues.

The last week of this month will see outdoor performances staged at Tianmu Sports Park (天母運動公園), which feature local troupes such as the popular Ju Percussion Group 2 (朱宗慶打擊樂團2) and Hai Sun Taiwanese Opera (海山戲館).

Given the excitement over the two parallel festivals, there is simply no excuse for any summer vacation boredom.
