    The Vinyl word

First there was Portia Surreal, now there's Miss Tuesdae. Whoever next?

Last week's Clash of the Titan's night was well attended, given the usual problems with dragging the punters out on a January night. The residents got the crowd moving and grooving early on in the evening before the British guests Shimon and Fresh stepped up. The Velvet Underground makes for a surprisingly good venue for electronica, having built up its reputation for band-based events.

It just goes to show that drum'n'bass can and does work in Taipei — kudos to Basement Productions for sticking their necks out and taking a risk, though it may be their last party for some time, as Rich Greenland is heading back to his native Kiwiland for a break.

And he's not the only one fleeing these shores. Fresh from boom-bapping at their weiya last Saturday, Junior and Megan host J.A.M. Sessions first event of the year tomorrow night, entitled Grid Lock; it is their goodbye to Coffey who is moving on to pastures new after a five-year sojourn on the island purveying some fine house and breaks at various nights. He's not leaving just yet, but Junior and Megan will be heading back to their native Toronto for a well-deserved rest soon. Marcus Aurelius and Coffey are up as well, and the night is at a new place called Battery on the instersection of Nanjing and Jianguo roads (B1, 9 Nanjing E Rd Sec 3, Taipei, 台北市南京東路三段9號B1). The Vinyl Word has yet to visit the venue, but the word is that this is an exciting little space.

Elsewhere this weekend, Champagne 3 is going gay tonight with the Freedom Ibiza night featuring Eric Entrena, the monthly resident at Space in Barcelona, and veteran of El Divino and Space's sister club in Ibiza. Sam and Vertigo will support.

For blokes who like their bread buttered on the other side, naked Miss Tuesdae will be leaving little to the imagination at Kaohsiung's Cube tonight, before repeating the act at MoS tomorrow night. The last birthday-suited DJ was Portia Surreal at Champagne 3 … though if you've seen one, you've kind of seen them all, and one wonders whether the gimmickry is really worth it. Tomorrow, Cube hosts music of a somewhat more cerebral nature, with SyntaxError, Glenn and Andy Mac, alongside Bobo and Peter Burke.
