Action star Jet Li (李連杰) and Taiwanese-Japanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro (金城武) will co-star and Peter Chan (陳可辛) will direct the US$30 million remake of the 1973 Shaw brothers film The Blood Brothers, according to a recent report by Shanghai's Oriental Morning Post newspaper.
On the sidelines of promoting another film, A Battle of Wits, which goes on release in Taiwan on Dec. 8, Lau confirmed he will appear in The Blood Brothers remake, which was originally directed by the famed martial arts director Chang Cheh (張徹), and that filming is scheduled to start at the end of November.
In The Blood Brothers, the relationship between three close friends is shattered when one kills another to win his wife, and the third friend seeks revenge.
Lau said the new version would feature the same characters, "but the plot will be a little different'' from the original.
