The company is hoping to make The Door into an annual or biannual event, Kuo said.
"It's a kind of promise to the audience" made in 2003, which was the last time the company held an outdoor performance on the mountain, he said.
However, the celebrations don't end on Sunday. In addition to the workshops by the Burkina Faso group, from Thursday to Sunday, there will be a U2 performance in the theater on the fifth floor of the center. It will be theater in the round, with the audience in the center of the room.
U2 is the name given to performances by individual members of the U-Theater troupe. Liu and drumming director Huang Chih-chun (黃誌群) want to encourage the company's members to pursue their own artistic vision and interests. Next week's performance will be by Tu Chi-chao (杜啟造).
Because it is not easy to find the U-Theater's facility on the mountain, not to mention that parking along the mountain road is limited, the company has organized shuttle buses to take The Door's audience to and from two MRT stations for NT$100 per person round trip.
There will be signs at the Qizhang Station and Muzha Zoo Station to indicate where you can catch the shuttle buses. Because U-Theater wants people to enjoy the mountain for itself and not just the performances, they are encouraging people to arrive early. The shuttle buses will run every 20 minutes starting at 5pm tonight and 3pm tomorrow and Sunday.
