After three weeks of brilliant deep house, Hipp-E has left the country. He went out in style, however, rocking Luxy with a set of groovy, hypnotic beats last Friday night. No brazen, full-on house with a sample orchestra in tow, thank you. Just loping bass lines with twisted organ riffs and reverb vocals. The capacity crowd appreciated every moment of it, keeping their heads down and dancing well past 3am. When he exited stage left everyone was sad to see the Denver resident go.

Never fear, Luxy has found an ample replacement in the form of Sneak. Known as the creator and main proponent of disco house, Sneak went on to produce the hits You Can't Hide from Your Bud and Fix My Sink. Expect a set of tough, funky house peppered with plenty of classics when he plays tonight.

Next door in the Galleria will be Cash Money, bringing his South Philly style of DJing to Taiwan. A living legend whose influenced all of your favorite DJs, even if they don't know it, see him so that one day you can tell your kids.

Too much time in a club can be bad for you, though. Promoters 12 Inch Productions are throwing a Funky Chocolate party at Da-An Beach resort (台中大安海灘) north of Taichung City, tomorrow night. Originally scheduled for July 15th, a typhoon had other plans, and forced organizers to take a rain check. But weather stations are forecasting sunny skies for tomorrow.

Sun is just what this party needs, as the always-soulful rhythms and good times of the Masters At Work are the main influence. Accordingly, Tommy, Glen, Matty D, and JJ will provide a grab bag of funk infused hip hop and house. Moreover, Tommy, the main promoter, says the sounds system has been improved, with a full stage for the DJs and beautiful, but subtle, light stands. Says Tommy, the party's main organizer, “I just want everyone to be funky [on Saturday].”

Get some of that soul heaven vibe that's good for your health, and feet, from 10pm till late. Tickets are $550 NT with one drink included. Call (04) 2680-0398 or visit www.daanbeach.com.tw for transportation information.

Alternatively, Cube Production presents Summer Aquarian 2006: Final Stop at Jinshan Youth Activity Center (台北縣金山鄉金山青年活動中心) tomorrow. The party features beach volleyball, kayaking, a hip-hop stage with Dicker, Vicar and Noodle in the mix, a stage manned by David S, Blueman, Jimmy Chen and Victor, and a back to back stage featuring Rex, Vertigo, J6, TS Sailor Moon, Em Lee and Philix 66.

Tickets bought in advance cost NT$600, and NT$800 if purchased at the door. Visit www.summer-aquarian.com for a list of ticketing outlets and transport information.

There are more goodies this week from the crew at Luxy who are offering FREE podcasts of their guest and resident DJs. On offer are original hip-hop, electrohouse and breakbeat sessions. Find them on www.luxy-taipei.com/podcast and if you have an Apple computer it's even better as iTunes will automatically register the podcast (phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=177853557).

Initial offerings include Reason's Deeper Shades of Reason, which has echoes of Miles Davis and is a jazzy and a sophisticated mix worthy of a long roadtrip.

“I've always thought of Reason as a prodigy of sorts,” Luxy promoter Marco Lapka said of the brightest star in Luxy's nightlife sky. “Meat Katie also considers him a gem and they plan to do a future collaboration.”
