Ferry Corsten has seen and done it all in Taipei before now and tonight he will do it again -- no doubt satisfying his fan base of idolizing women but also pleasing the guys who appreciate the symphony of sounds composed by one of the Dutch masters of dance music.
Corsten contacted us by e-mail before boarding the plane to Taiwan.
Taipei Times: Does your new album Fire have what you called "guts"? Could you tell us a little about its conception and how it turned out?
Ferry Corsten: I'm still working on my new album. It's turning out very well, I think. I've experimented with new sounds. It's fresh but truly my sound. It's the next step after my previous artist album Right of Way, where I started experimenting with a new sound.
TT: You will be coming to Taiwan during the Chinese New Year. Do you know anything about the holiday? Do you have anything special planned?
FC: I know it's one of the most important holidays of the year. Celebrated exuberantly. I have a gig in Luxy, Taipei planned for New Year's Eve. So I expect a big party.
TT: Are you glad that you did not become an electrical engineer?
FC: Music has always been my passion. To actually make a profession out of it is a dream come true.
TT: The DJ job is considered to be glamorous. Are you? Or is your life glamorous?
FC: Well, the glamour is only for as long as I am behind the decks. After that it is back to no sleep and airplane food.
TT: Are groupies a problem?
FC: No, they're part of a good fan base. It's great to see the same faces in different places.
TT: You are a favorite at Luxy. Do you have any stories or good memories of your last time in Taiwan, that you could tell us about?
FC: I love Luxy as a club and the people I met there backstage and on the floor. And it's always great fun to have a drink after the gig.
TT: Why are so many Dutch DJs so good at trance?
FC: I think it's because of the geographical position we have as a country. We are influenced by all the great music scenes all around us, UK, France, Germany and Scandinavia. I think that has its effect on us. Besides that Dutch DJ's are more interactive with the crowd than other nationalities.
TT: I notice your Web site has English, Spanish and Japanese. What about Dutch and Chinese?
FC: I choose English because it's the world's first language. Spanish is second and Japanese because I have a huge fan base over there. Dutch people speak English very well so no need for a Dutch site. Chinese might be interesting for the future ;-)

FC: Rotterdam, The Netherlands
TT: Do blonds have more fun?
FC: Absolutely! (Corsten is as much a blondie as Debbie Harry).
TT: Who is the sexiest woman on the planet?
FC: There are so many. But I tend to look for the exotic type.
TT: Who is the sexiest guy?
FC: Are you kidding me? ;-)
TT: How many DJs does it take to change a lightbulb and why?
FC: Just one. If the music's good he'll burn the place down.
