With a bumper lineup of vinyl events this New Year's Eve, Taiwan beat freaks look set to end 2005 on a high.
The old adage -- "Starting the year as you mean to go on" -- could go either way for MOS, which is throwing a party at the newly opened Taipei Arena (
The sports stadium has a capacity of 15,000, but will it be filled with a top-notch sound system and people? The building is covered by a government non-smoking policy that organizers said they were trying to find a way round. This is the first vinyl event at the Taipei Arena and it will make the mould for future events -- the heat is on.
Next up is AXD's party featuring Taipei Times Top DJ Poll winners Victor Cheng, Stone and Tiger. Admission is NT$800 on the door, NT$600 in advance. Check out www.axd-taipei.com/forums/ for ticket outlets.
After a hugely successful Christmas do, Luxy is again pulling out all the stops with a 2F Remix Party featuring the drum n' bass trio Kosheen in the Lotus room, which also features the Citrus crew, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in the Galleria. The club will open early at 8pm to reduce the long queues that revellers have had to endure on previous New Year's Eve parties.
The newly refurbished Plush is throwing the most expensive do. Probably. DJ P and MC Trouble will provide the entertainment for punters who have forked out NT$1,500 for men or NT$1,000 for the fairer sex.
Next door in Partyroom, Mykal and Ta-shi from Japan will lay it on thick between 9:30pm and 4:30am.
Dancehall Under (Purple) will host a long vinyl session by DJs Tiger, Stone, Joe and Teddy. The 25-hour party is split into two. From 11pm until 7am entry will burn a NT$700 hole in your pocket and entry to the the day party, that runs from 7am until noon, costs NT$350.
The popular Deep Inside night at Eden will be going out with a bang. Saucey and SL and guest Daddy P from New York will be laying down their popular brand of beats from 4am till 9am. The crew are wrapping up the night so they can spend more time on producing music. Cover is NT$500 with two drinks.
Earlier in the evening the club will be holding a "celebrate night" from 10pm until 4am when the sofas will be moved to make way for the afterparty revellers.
Keeping things going well into the new year will be Jr, Megan and Junior Van Den Berg, who will see in the first sunrise with classic house. Door damage is NT$500 for all you can drink from 4am until 10am and the party winds down at noon.
In Kaohsiung, funky and progressive house will be the name of the game at Tokyo City with Satan, Syntaxerror, Glenn and Timothy whipping up some mayhem from 9pm till 6am. Entry is NT$200 for gals and NT$400 for guys. Also in Taiwan's second city at the Roof Lounge 14 DJs will be tickling eardrums with a wide range of beats well into the wee hours. Check out www.roof-lounge.com for more details.
Back to the capital, Coffey, Kay and Edmund will see in the year at Bamboo and W on Renai road.
