For three days starting today, the United Nations flag will be waving at National Taiwan University (NTU) as hundreds of college students from across the country join together for the NTU National Model UN Conference.

Not endorsed or associated by the real UN, this Model UN conference is nevertheless well-established with many universities abroad.

Held annually by the NTU Model UN club, the event simulates what the real UN is all about. Everything from procedure rules to committee topics will be acted out in accordance with the real UN. The topics will range from textile dispute to post-tsunami relief and all dialogue is in English.

Almost 200 students from different universities in Taiwan have registered and this year a few delegates hail from the US and Bangladesh.

Registration to participate has already closed but for those interested, please visit www.ntumun.org or contact the secretary general at ponyisme@msn.com. For those interested in observing, the opening ceremony starts at 11 am today, at the NTU Institute of Applied Mechanics Building, 1, Roosevelt Rd, Sec 4, Taipei ( 臺北市羅斯福路四段一號台大應用力學館)
