If God was a DJ and played a gig at the Vatican he wouldn't have filled a room with as many punters as were rammed into Luxy's Lotus room last Saturday night for Sasha, who redeemed himself for the 2003 New Year's Eve fiasco. Nuff said.

If you're born to dance and are tired of the early morning options in Taipei that generally amount to Purple and AXD, which for an all-night bender can be a pricey end to a mash-up, a new afterhours club has opened. And it's not half as dark and dirty as its time slot would suggest.

COR, at the intersection of Nanjing East Road and Dunhua North Road has a weekly bash that begins on Sunday mornings at 4am, with cocktails for NT$150 and door damage at NT$300. Each week a different dance genre will get an airing, and this weekend some homegrown talents, Ultra Capacity and DJ Eddie, will lay on progressive trance.

Street cred and corporate success don't often sit well together. After MoS in London underwent a small reinvention in an effort to claw back some cool by mixing it up and trying to go a little more underground, our own local branch of the superclub is following suit. The Beat Symposium and Beautifunk are rolling out a night called Steppin' Up that kicks off tomorrow. Buff Wise, Pierre and Marcus Aurelius will spin disco and funk tunes from the likes of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Larry Levan. Whatever next, a Northern Soul night? Bring it on. In the main room Palestinian-US producer Fredwreck -- who has created tracks for Snoop Dog among other rap giants -- and Emcee Dice will bring on some activist lyrics and cracking hip hop.

But tonight at MoS it's the infamous Salvation Gay Party from London. Following in the footsteps of the legendary Trade and DTPM, Salvation parties are renowned throughout Europe for their debauchery and high jinx. Luke Hope and Elliot Brown will deliver a winter injection of house that oscillates between the happy clappy stuff and harder, funkier vibes. Brown used to play at the Hanover Grand, where the parties were extremely glamorous.

AXD seems to be on a weird trip. Last week it held a launch party for Madonna's new album and tomorrow it will thow a Destiny's Child foam party.

After putting on a rip-roaring bash last month, Adora, Junior Van der Berg, Megan and Junior will return to the Kuta Bar tomorrow night. Entrance is NT$700 for all you can drink on selected tipples. The flyer states it ends at 3am, but the last do was sweet, with the DJs pulling some real classics out of the bag, including true old skool-style, just before the end, which came around dawn.

James Zabiela, Nic Fanciulli from the UK are gonna hit the wheels of steel at Luxy tomorrow night.

This weekend Party Room will raise its blip on the vinyl radar by hosting a drum n' bass party. Capital J, from Canada, will give the vastly underrated (in Taiwan anyway) cousin of House, a much needed excursion into Taipei nightlife.
