The Double 10 Day weekend unleashed a wave of patriotic fervor in Taipei with revelers

taking full advantage of the day off work on Monday. Luxy took the crown with quality nights on both Saturday and Sunday. The big "Sweet" bash on Sunday was an eclectic mix of drum 'n' bass, machinist techno from Taipei favorite Takkyu Ishino who packed the Galleria getting low down and dirty, and house fusion from Singapore's ambassador of music, DJ Aldrin.

The atmosphere was electric and felt like a return to a packed party at the old 2nd Floor, but without the glow sticks. Reviews of the Ministry of Sounds' Saturday night do were surprisingly dismissive as DJ Yousef, a scouser of Egyptian ancestry, has all the right credentials. A few clubbers switched venues from MoS to Luxy in search of the night's best party.

Tonight at Luxy is "IN-OUT" with Simon Coyle, who works with Australian Techno label WetMusik, and is regarded as having given the Antipodean music scene a much-needed shot in the arm.

If tribal tracks are more your thang MoS is throwing a gay "Fever" party featuring DJ Paulo who mixes screaming divas with tribal flavor deep house. The Skylounge will feature Latin disco DJs (NT$400 before 11pm, NT$600 after).

Tomorrow at MoS John Askew, a tech/trance DJ from the UK will plug in and play. He signed to Judge Jules' Serious Management last year and his career has been looking up ever since. The night is part of a promotion tour for his recently released debut album Lower the Tone, (NT$500 before 11pm, NT$700 after).

DJ Precision, who broke into the top echelons of the DJ world with his "Say Yes" track in 2002 is returning after his last gig here seven months ago, and will play trance at Luxy tomorrow night, (NT$600 before 11pm, NT$800 after).

And Eden is host to DJs Saucey and K Fancy tonight. The night is the duo's third show; the first an impromptu set at a Taichung afterparty and the second at a beach party during the summer. The pair will spin some West Coast funky house, and tag team the night away. Guys are NT$350 before 12pm with one drink and NT$500 after with two drinks. Getting in on the girly action Eden is letting the ladies in free all night and will ply them with complimentary shots every hour -- expect to see stampedes at the bar.

A new night called `VICE' organized by the United Nations of Funk will open proceedings tomorrow with a funky house party at the Kuta (Bali Bali) Lounge Bar with Megan and J.R. (aka Junior) from Toronto, Canada, spinning East Coast house and DJ Lars from Norway bringing a Scandinavian take on old school grooves. Entry is NT$700, and for that you can drink all you want. The offer on selected beers and spirits -- including Becks, Johnnie Walker Red and Bacardi -- ends at 3am.

Down in Taichung DJs Boyan, Andrew Ford and Paul Energy will put on "Disco Revenge" tomorrow at Bobo Nightclub, entry is NT$300.
