If you're bored of the usual performance pieces and are seeking something new you could check out the ideally-named Face Two dance performance at the Experimental Theater of the National Theater.

Face Two, which is brought to you by the Water Reflection Dance Ensemble, is an interesting and imaginative performance dance concept that breaks the mold of two-dimensional theater.

The entire dance performance will be brought to you on a two-sided stage, breaking away from the traditional one-sided proscenium stage that is seen in most dance performances.

This idea from choreographer Tan Hui-chen (譚惠貞) was inspired by Xiang embroidery from the Hunnan province of China, which uses double-sided stitching. This concept has then been applied to the act of dancing.

The actual theater is split into two parts by a white screen, each side having a audience to watch the dance performance, which has two separate yet intertwined acts happening at the same time.

This may create new challenges for lighting and stage crews but that may be expected with new concepts. The hope of Face Two is to change and remold elements of theater like shadow, memory and time and give the audience a new way to enjoy a dance performance.

The Face Two dance performance will be on July 15 to July 17. Tickets will cost around NT$400 and can be purchased at the Experimental Theater of the National Theater. Visit www.wrde.com.tw or call (02) 2252 6123 for more times and information.
