When Donald Lee (李錫昌) feels like a break from selling organic vegetables he likes nothing bet-ter than crossing the road for a drink at the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor (TTL) corporation's latest bar, the Taipei Beer Factory.
He orders a Taiwan Beer that was brewed the same day at the TTL factory site just behind the bar and settles in the garden with friends and family for a sup of his favored tipple.
"The bar opened in March and it's now my favorite place. I live just over the road so it's convenient. The beer is really fresh. If it's not sold the same day it's given away to grocery shops. You can tell when it was made from the date on the cap of the bottle," Lee said.
The company will transform the whole area into a destination for tourists to observe the process of beer making and learn about the history of the booze and cigarettes monopoly.
The beer garden, bar and KTV room on 85, Bade Road, Sec 2, Taipei (台北市八德路2段85號) is one of Taipei's best-kept secrets since it was opened without publicity in March and is a pleasant destination for a simple drink and chat. It's open 11am to past 12pm every day.
